Ami Sallee Corley, freelance theater artist. As actor, her work is often noted for her intense emotional connection. She has played ravenous to elegant, silly to serious, mother to lover. Highlights include: Ouisa-Six Degrees of Separation, Susan-Woman in Mind, Tamora-Titus Andronicus, Lady Capulet-Romeo and Juliet. As director, Ami has developed an innovative style that has landed her the "out there" plays with left-of-center realism. Her ability to see the cast as individuals and to see each individual artist's strengths allows for a refreshingly free and communal rehearsal process. Highlights include: Caryll Churchill's Cloud 9, Tim Crouch's An Oak Tree, Tracey Letts' Bug. Her performance and direction have been critacally acclaimed and won her Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay Best Actress (2001 and 2007) and Best Director (2003). Ami's sound design is as left-of-center as her direction. She specializes in sound manipulation and electronic sound engineering. As teaching artist, she is known, again, for her ability to see the individual's strengths and develop those individually within a group class setting. She works with pre-k through adult students but specializes in in teens and adults. Ami teaches with The Patel Conservatory, The Gorilla Theatre, The Eleanor Dempsey Performing Arts Center and Metropolitan Ministries Academy. Ami is the former Operations and Producing Manager for The Patel Conservatory at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, former Managing Director for The Jobsite Theater and former Equity Actor. The latter she quit to pursue the two former and the two former she left to pursue her freelance career again. She is still a significant presence on stage and on the board of directors with Jobsite and is community ambassador for The Conservatory, where she oversees the AA scholarship program. She is also a founding member of All Out Rep, for which she also sits on the board of directors.
